South African Township Jazz 09 Jul 2018

South African Township Jazz image

From the Cape townships to Edinburgh

The Jazz & Blues Festival are delighted to welcome a young band that fizzes with South African joy. Brian Gilda, Chairman and MD of Peoples Ford, is a huge supporter of South African culture and has an inside track on the Kronendal Music Academy Jazz Band:

‘Come listen, enjoy and support a group of young South African musicians who even if they didn’t have terrific musical skills would still warrant your attendance. Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) hail from Imizamo Yethu a township on the edge of Hout Bay the latter being almost a sun kissed paradise the former being anything but. I speak first hand having been a visitor on numerous occasions to Imizamo Yethu and never fail to come away touched and enthused by the community and frankly inspired by the residents of all ages who look daily to improve their lives. Catch KMA if you can and be rewarded by their musical skills, fun and sheer exuberance for life’

In addition to playing at the Mardi Gras in the Grassmarket this Saturday, and parading at the Carnival on Sunday afternoon, the band will be playing throughout the opening few days of the Festival on the Free Stage in Teviot Row.
