First Time Friday - part 2 03 Jul 2015

First Time Friday - part 2 image

Here's another collection of great artists making their debut appearances at the Festival (and if you missed it, here's last week's First Time Friday guide!)

He's a genius on the drums, playing with intensity, innovation and total control - and he's here at the Festival for the very first time. Don't miss the master that is Antonio Sanchez (Festival Theatre Studio, Friday 17 July, 8.00pm)

Orkestra Del Sol's outright explosive mix of crazy energy and funky, ska-influenced, calypso encompassing and party-tastic brass have made them huge favourites on the Edinburgh scene. Yet somehow they've never played at the Jazz and Blues Festival... until now! (St Andrew Square, Spiegeltent, Wednesday 22 July, 10.00pm)

With a voice likened to Michael Bublé and superb talent for the saxophone, AJ Brown is one the UK's fastest rising jazz stars - we're delighted to welcome him for two gigs and we're sure audiences will love him too! (St Andrew Square, Spiegeltent, Friday 17 July, 5.30pm & Saturday 18 July, 10.30pm)

Ole Seimetz brings his quartet across from Germany again after a rapturous reception here in winter. Here's a chance to enjoy some super tight jazz musicianship, led by Ole himself on drums (The Jazz Bar, Wednesday 22 July, 8.00pm)

As their name suggests, New Orleans and its strong musical heritage play a big part in the sound of the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional Jass Band - from banjo to drums to sax, and trumpet, trombone and tuba this is a band who'll have their audiences in the palm of their hands (Tron Kirk, Monday 20 July, 1.30pm & 7.30pm, & St Andrew Square Spiegeltent, Tuesday 21 July, 7.30pm)

And for an experience far removed from the traditional, check out the utterly brilliant Butterscotch and her two solo beatbox shows - she sings, she plays piano and guitar and she spits rhymes and beats like no one else! (Tron Kirk, Thursday 23 July, 10.00pm & Friday 24 July, 5.30pm)

We'll have more First Time Fridays at the next week, or check out our Firsts theme page for even more new artists at this year’s Festival!
