Trad, Dixie & Mainstream Jazz 08 Jun 2016

Trad, Dixie & Mainstream Jazz image

We've swinging sounds for everyone at this year's Festival, so whether you like trad, dixie or mainstream jazz put these bands on your summer festival must-see list.

They sold out again last year and wowed up with their spellbinding 1920s and 30s music and costume, so we’re over the moon to have the enchanting Bratislava Hot Serenaders back at Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival for the third year running. The 19-piece band has extraordinary authenticity and pizzazz – you'll be left dazzled!

Embrace times gone by with more vintage music in the form of Moscow Drug Club. They’re an intoxicating mix of pop, cabaret and gypsy music and are the perfect taster of pre-war music you’d find in 1930s Berlin cabaret.

More foot stomping fun times with the award winning vintage vocalist Ali Affleck and the Copper Cats. She completely sold out in 2015 with her mix of Tin Pan Alley, Great American Songbook and traditional New Orleans Blues and we’re expecting the same in 2016 so snap up your tickets now.

Expect timeless classics and a whole lot of fun with the legendary Pasadena Roof Orchestra. They’ve been delighting audiences for decades with their mix of swing and hot dance music from the 20s and 30s and when it comes to authentic swing they have no equal.

If it’s traditional music from the home of jazz, New Orleans, you’re after then young musicians, New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional Jass Band, will be just the ticket. They make jazz enormously accessible and are a must see for anyone just getting into the scene.

More New Orleans style in the ever-popular Edinburgh group, Bill Salmond's Louisiana Ragtime Band, are back for another swinging set of 1920s inspired music from the bars and dance halls of N'Orleans.

Time to learn about swing with Dave Batchelor, The Scottish Swing Orchestra and their dance group as they take you on a musical journey of swing music through the ages in The Story of Swing. Fans of Duke Ellington, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald will be in their element at this classy concert.

More Scottish acts at the Festival and we’re delighted to have back Hamish McGregor Plays Acker Bilk. This Edinburgh clarinetist pays tribute to Acker Bilk and features Colin Steel and Dave Batchelor.

Another festival favourite, Brian Kellock, returns to the stage for a real Festival one-off. He’s put his dream band together to play swinging jazz in the style of the Oscar Peterson Trio – piano, guitar and bass. Kellock’s enlisted clarinetist and saxophonist Ken Peplowski from New York, Danish guitarist Jacob Fischer and another New Yorker and one of the best jazz bassists of our time, John Webber.
