In the beginning was Charlie Christian, but in terms of real electricity it was John McLaughlin in the 1970’s who defined jazz on the rock instrument, and he was followed in the early 80’s by two musicians who, amazingly, have been world beaters for nearly 40 of Jazz’ 100 years: Mike Stern and John Scofield.
