Sponsored by McEwans the 1984 festival goers back in the day would have to purchase the programme for £1. This was McEwans first sponsorship year stepping in at the last moment to help fund the festival.

The main events centred around the Jazz Pavillion at Meadowbank Stadium and music would be hosted across 15 other venues in the centre of Edinburgh including the Peartree House, Cygnet Bistro, Highwayman, Granary Bar and Sighthill Hotel.

Performers came from Scotland, England, Wales U.S.A., Canada, France, Sweden, West Germany, Italy and Demark. Including the likes of Buddy Tate, Red Richards, Benny Waters, Dave Shepherd, George Chisholm and Carol Kidd & Trio all played during the 1984 festival.

In this year BBC Radio Scotland also hosted a Jazz Tap and Jive Competition for “those with terpsichorial tendencies” at the Jazz Pavilion.
