Happy Birthday, Fats Waller - a jazz inspiration 21 May 2015
It's Fats Waller's birthday and, were he still with us, he'd be the grand old age of 111. Happy Birthday Fats!
And if jazz songs are your thing, then be sure to check out the lineup for this year's Festival, with a range of truly brilliant performers taking the stage.
You can barely talk of jazz singers without the name Frank Sinatra popping up - and in his centenary year we're delighted to present a fantastic night of tribute to the man known simply as The Voice. Curtis Stigers, Todd Gordon & Jacqui Dankworth, and the BBC Big Band will make it a night to remember.
For some stoming New Orleans-style tunes and rocking piano, don't miss Davina and the Vagabonds, who are back in town after briefly visiting us during their European tour earlier this year. Davina and the boys are playing four gigs at July's Festival.
Be sure to catch Somi, an American chanteuse whose voice beautifully blends her African roots and her love for the pure jazz sound. Playing at the Tron Kirk, space will be limited, so book soon to hear her fill the hall with song.
And don't miss Edinburgh-born Niki King as she performs an evening tribute to another Jazz great, Duke Ellington. Niki's stylish sound wil be sure to set pulses racing at the George Square Spiegeltent.
