A trumpeter's guide to the Festival 26 May 2015

A trumpeter's guide to the Festival image

He’s one of the most recognisable trumpeters of all time and we’re celebrating Miles Davis’ 89th anniversary with a round up of some of the trumpeters playing at this year’s Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival.

We couldn’t talk about trumpeters without highlighting the legend that is Warren Vache. The New Jersey jazz trumpeter is returning to the festival with various acts this July - he’s truly unique and not one to be missed.

More from America and we’ve got one of the most exciting musicians in today’s jazz scene – Ambrose Akinmusire. Effortlessly cool and a top class trumpeter, our brochure cover star will keep you wanting more.

Fans of jazz hero Louis Armstrong will be delighted to know Enrico Tomasso will be performing as well. He knew and played with Armstrong and will perform at Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival with Ken Mathieson’s Classic Jazz Orchestra Hot Horns.

We’ve another special gig from trumpeter Ryan Quigley and saxophonist Paul Towndrow. They’ll play the music Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown made with strings for their late 40s/50s recordings.

Celtic sounds with Colin Steele will also feature at this year’s Festival. His Quintet will showcase his beautiful trumpet skills with ear catching melodies and Celtic tinged music.

Have a listen to our trumpeters on today’s Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival playlist...
