At EJBF we want to ensure that our audiences have the opportunity to hear the diverse array of artists that Scotland has to offer as part of our exciting and ambitious programming. To help us achieve these goals we held an open call to all bands in Scotland to perform at the Scottish Jazz Weekend 2021.
The two band performing on our Introducing Stage are SUS4 and duo Ben Shankland and Sam Hancock.
SUS4 are a 4-piece band who have been playing around the northeast for 5 years, originally as a standards-based band playing swing/bebop, but their music ranges from jazz fusion, through to blues-based funk and latin rhythms. Featuring Colin Black on guitar, Matthew Kilner on sax, Bryan Chalmers on bass, and Richard Glassby on drums.
Pianist Ben Shankland and vocalist Sam Hancock are an exciting new pairing. From sensitive and delicate passages to electrifying moments of virtuosity, they have undeniable chemistry developed through years of making music together.
Check both acts out below and get your tickets now - don’t miss your chance to see the stars of the future!
