Batala
Batala is an international samba reggae music project with branches and bands from across the world. Founded by musical/artistic director Giba Gonçalves, who will be joining us from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, to lead out the UK band for Edinburgh Festival Carnival.
Gwanaval
A force to be reckoned with, percussion from the French Caribbean Island of Martinique. They bring a fast-marching band style to their music fused with African traditional rhythms, not to be missed.
Bombrando
From the Lisbon neighbourhood of ‘Brando’ this drum group mostly populated by young Portuguese people of Brazilian, Cape Verdean, Guinea Bissau and Angola heritage take the traditions of Portuguese drums and infuse them with other global groves to create a unique sound which also includes ‘Portuguese Bagpipes’.
Samba Resille
This drum group bring the Brazilian Samba grove to many carnivals across Europe and beyond. They are one of the founding groups organising Toulouse Carnival one of Frances most popular carnival events.
Pulse of the Place
Edinburgh based youth music band that work across the city delivering music making for many children and young people. They have created a new carnival band for 2022 that brings together young people from different communities and neighbourhood.
